Includes unlimited streaming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.
Buy the entire album: you get a lovely bonus CD booklet WITH lyrics, liner notes, photos and so on. It is simply gorgeous. I'm serious. You might find yourself printing up some of these pages to frame on your wall!!! AND currently, you don't get the booklet with an iTunes purchase... so that is food for thought. Thank you! PS: Enjoy this absolutely reasonable price of 7 Canadian Dollars. That's like virtually nothing in any other currency! ;)
This is "électrocelte 8.0" (Pronounced "Ay-Lek-Tro-Selt")… the FOURTH official release by the Montreal band known as Supersonic Tartan Death Machine.
These tracks were recorded and produced from October 2014 to January 2015 at BearCave Studios, Montreal. All tracks conceived, created and plotted on the trusty studio iPad, using a wide variety of great iOS apps. Many of these tracks were started long ago, and so this is a bit of a "tying up loose ends" for STDM, and overall it feels really good to share this collection!
Once again the voyage is a familiar one. "électrocelte 8.0" takes it from traditional Celtic to electronic/EDM stylings, to alternative and indie rock and back again, with a precision that is based in Jeff's penchant for multigenre madness. The lyrics are as sharp and poignant as ever. All vocals delivered with a silky smoothness, or maximum snarl... which do YOU prefer? ;)
Several of the tunes refer to places in Scotland, some real, some imagined, some that Jeff has visited, some that he PLANS to visit...
There are original compositions, moving laments, grinding electronic dance tracks, airy ambient space jams, songs about world peace and even a song about a bad back. Welcome to my world... and the sound of the bagpipes will take you through it in grand style.
released April 6, 2015
Supersonic Tartan Death Machine is Jeff McCarthy: Highland Bagpipes, Walsh Shuttle Pipes (small pipes), Border Pipes, Irish Whistles, Vocals/Lyrics, all iOS music composition, arrangement and programming.
Apps used: everything hangs on my DAW of choice, GarageBand for iOS. For ease of use, and occasional export to Logic Pro X, it is supreme!! Many of my organic sounds (pipes, whistles and voice) will enter into play recorded straight into GB, using a ZOOM H6 recorder with an iRig HD digital interface. I use Inter-App Audio and/or Audiobus to add a variety of sounds and sound effects from instrument apps, including Figure, Guitarism, KORG Gadget, Animoog, Egoist, Elastic Drums, Photosphore Synth, Mitosynth, Thumbjam, Impaktor, Beatmaker 2, Looptical, Beattime, SunVox, Crystalline, Swoopster, THOR, Samplr, Toc & Roll, and others.
•Guy Beeri Mauseth of Rude Duke, Dun Aenghus and Whatever The Majority Decides, on bass. (Tracks 8.1 Dragonfly & 8.3 Implore)
•Colin (THE Original Musical Swiss Army Knife) Powell of Automatic Splash, and also known as "A Multitude of One", formerly "Alterego UK" on guitars (Track 8.1 Dragonfly)
Mixed and Mastered by Jeff McCarthy at BearCave Studios Montreal, March 2015.
Lastly, I want to thank my friends who encourage me in the virtual worlds of SoundCloud, Bandcamp, YouTube, Facebook and FAWM. I feel that with every album there has been an evolution and so it is truly gratifying for me to be able to do this, make some cool sounds and have fun at it. That is truly what art is about.
CUMHA NA THA SIBH. You can call it "électrocelte", electronic-celtic-alternative indierock fusion. I use iPad & a wide
variety of great iOS apps to make my music. I wear a kilt daily, play highland pipes, border pipes, Irish Whistles, & am a prolific composer/writer & singer of new tunes & songs. My inspirations include Martyn Bennett, Rare Air & Gordon Duncan.
