This is the THIRD official release by Supersonic Tartan Death Machine.

Inspired by the music of many great bands and many genres, Jeff McCarthy creates an original amalgam of sound that is like no other. The unmistakable Celtic sounds of The Great Highland Bagpipe, practice chanters and Irish whistles are fused with heavy layered guitars, power chords, synths, piano, and beats to keep the toes tapping. The songs (as opposed to the instrumentals) feature the awesome bass work of Rude Duke bassist Guy Beeri Mauseth.

Jeff’s powerful vocals alternate between soft, loud, snarling and harmonious to cut through the sound and bring the listener out of their reverie. While bagpipes play a huge role in every STDM song, Jeff stresses that is important not to look at this as an album of pipe music. If anything it is an album of alternative rock and world music... that just happens to have bagpipes. And that brings the music to just a whole other level of COOL. ;)

Refusing to subscribe to the idea of boxing oneself in by genre; STDM in fact often uses the term "multigenre", and tries to create a sound that "thinks outside the box" of standard musical definitions...

This album was created at a fairly frenetic pace, perhaps half speed of FAWM speed, but nevertheless… I personally think Guy is still reeling at the number of songs I dropped on him in the last 90 days.

The themes vary as greatly as the stylings of the music. Sci-fi, afterlife, apocalypse, human survival, angry haggis, giant robots… many of my favorite themes! Here are a few short thoughts on each song:

7.0 Worms: the anthem of the mighty creatures under our feet, creepy yet powerful!

7.1 HEXADRØNE: jazzy Rare Air cover

7.2 Minotaur: a song decrying the gatekeepers in our lives

7.3 Mike Kennedy’s: great tune for a great man

7.4 Megalopede: giant alien bugs are taking over… I pretend I am Billy Corgan here. Has kind of an industrial/Nine Inch Nails type of backbeat

7.5 Tartan Mech Paradise: the title is cool, the sounds are cooler… very Rare Air-ish

7.6 Radioactive Haggis Invasion: another instrumental with a cool title, it’s almost like video game music

7.7 Time: a fantastical look at the afterlife, and the story of one person’s journey into it

7.8 u r the 1: New Order with bagpipes

7.9 A Prisoner of Nothing: a bit of a throwback to 60s garage rock, but with very poignant lyrics. A sad anthem of the homeless people of the world…
